Have you considered when you gave him the electric moped you raised his insecurities to the max and now he's trying really really hard to come across as worthy? For you that eMoped was nothing (or little), for him it was clearly life changing. He's trying to prove to you, and to HIMSELF that he's worth it. You put him in too much debt to you when you gave him that. I was once offered in a job a brand new top-shelf MacBook Pro by the CEO (I'm a software engineer) and said "no thanks" precisely to avoid this situation. Not everybody can afford to say "no, thanks".

Had him his P45. No room for sentimentality if it is costing time and money.

You cannot let emotion get in the way. A person working for you earning a wage has to do what they're told. In addition to that, judging by your demeanor in the last couple of videos.....he's driving you bananas!!!

Probs needs dealing with without the pressure of the camera so you can be clear abt the direction without worrying about the fallout from the rest of us. Once yr back on track the camera can go back in. Poss needs another person in the mix to share the frustration and dilute it somewhat. Good luck. Maybe pause and do some of your own place for a week or so??

James you were the one hired to do this project so it is yours to delegate,hire ,fire etc.If skinny was my employee he would have been gone long ago.I feel you have all helped and given enough leeway and it’s time to move on.Keep up the good work.

It’s a very hot summer, you are busy, you like your own standards, and Skinny is a bit of a loose cannon. It would drive me nuts, to be honest. No suggestions, just be careful to take care of yourself at this time of the year.

I started this assuming I’d watch a bit and fast forward to the end. Nope watched it all and I’m glad I did. I’m also glad you guys kept as much of the original structure as you could. As someone who’s been in the trades in California I really didn’t see much in the way of earthquake retrofitting. In a place like here on the California Coast earthquake and fire are at the core of our building codes. I don’t think of quakes in the UK, but in Portugal I thought there would be a high concern for quakes. I don’t think fire 🔥 is going to ever be an issue ;) Cheers it’s beautiful

Last couple of videos have been very winning winning, maybe a break would be good for you. Skinny definitely can get on ones nerves but it takes 2 to be stubborn and argumentative. You are the boss so maybe time to be a bit more responsible and set clear goals and guidance. If he does not manage to do it, you either get better help or go at it alone. Not much help available down there I know, specially this time of year but time to take hard decisions.

Love the videos James, understand the frustrations. Hope it can be worked out with Skinny. He has to understand that at the end of the day you're paying him to do the job you want, not what he wants. Hope Cristina is well and also hope that you're able to carry on with the vids, but can see its very tricky to manage a big project at Detlev's and also at your own home, and then showing it to all us out here on t'internet. Hope this week is a better one!

Why is the bathroom right at the entrance?

OMG, is there anything you guys can't do?! You literally built that house from scratch. Yeah, there were some walls left before you started off, but man, other than that you guys did it ALL! My hat off to you, guys! 😲🤩

A builder who can't make a straight level? You are having to redo too much work to correct these mistakes. You need to be firm with this guy James, as others have said you carry the can.

What they are not showing you is the pre-work required to do all of this, which probably takes the same amount of time than the repair itself.

I think everything will work out and in the end it will all work out

worst thing to do with those walls is to use an heavy concrete roof. During lateral earthquakes the ring will slide, getting teh walls to disgregate. In italy we got this problem with earthwquakes in Amatrice/Aquila/colfiorito. Better a light wood roof, or at least, bade of light steel beams.

I love your channel. Builders (even "pretend builders") tend to take the month of August off, so understandable.. just too hot to think straight and do. You are both such lovely people and such a lovely couple and it's so sweet and wholesome that you miss each other when you're apart. I've learnt mountains following your channel, about general building....... didn't know what rebar was before! 🤣, or how concrete pillars are built, or about concrete window lintels, repairing wells, and how concrete roofing is made. I'm moving to the Algarve at some point soonish and Im taking in a lot of interesting information and learning. I find you both so refreshing and with your understated sense of humour, I watch giggling, you are so funny at times. This goes for your brother Andrew too. Please do keep your channel going James and Christina! 😁xx

I just love what you do, but you need to address the problem up front you cannot work like this. You do know what you have to do. For your own wellbeing please do it and get back to a balanced working environment.

Skinny is a lovely fella and hard working but he should understand it's your building project yes he can input his ideas but when you say you want it building a certain way he should do it that way it's not going to be easy. Good Luck xx
